What Happened in Episode 1?
The story continues right after the Season 1 finale. Kong is out of control and attacks a Monarch facility on Skull Island. Cate, Kentaro, and the others barely escape in a helicopter. At the same time, Keiko wakes up in a new Monarch base built on a massive ship called Outpost 18. She is shocked when she realizes how much time has passed since she was last awake.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 E1 Story
Episode 1 of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 continues right after Season 1. Kong is raging on Skull Island and attacks a Monarch base. He smashes the ground and throws debris everywhere. The team escapes in helicopters, coming face to face with the giant ape as he roars at them to leave.
She panics and searches for Hiroshi. When she steps outside, she is shocked to see Monarch has moved onto a massive ship called Outpost 18. Kong’s attack has left 16 people dead and many injured. Tim and Verdugo review the damage. Tim believes Kong is frightened by something, not just angry at Monarch’s portal experiments.
Verdugo meets Keiko, Cate, and the others. They are unhappy about being kept isolated. Keiko wants to return to save Lee Shaw, but Monarch refuses because Skull Island is too dangerous. Kentaro accepts that Shaw may be dead, but Cate and Keiko still believe he is alive. Soon, we see Shaw did survive the fall and watched the portal close behind him.
Keiko remains weak after her time in Axis Mundi. Cate uses this time to convince Hiroshi that they must rescue Shaw. Flashbacks take us to 1957 in Santa Soledad, Chile. Shaw, Keiko, and Billy are investigating reports of sea monsters. The town feels strange and hostile. They discover a mysterious well covered in symbols. In a bar, locals attack Billy when he tries to photograph a strange fish.
A man named Tomas nearly kills him, but Shaw calms the situation. Billy later learns from a woman named Lucia that the villagers worship a sea creature like a god. They believe it provides for them and will kill to protect its secret. Lucia secretly shows them cave drawings of a kraken-like monster.
Back in the present, Cate and Kentaro plan to secretly return to Skull Island to save Shaw. Corah helps distract Monarch staff while they steal a speedboat. A deadly storm wall is closing around the island, giving them only a few hours.
They land on the beach and move inland. The island is full of monsters. They even find Kong sleeping. The group sneaks past him and reaches Shaw’s crashed ship. It has no power, so Kentaro and Corah fix the system while facing small creatures nearby.
Cate confronts Hiroshi about his secrets and double life. He apologizes, but they cannot resolve it now. Meanwhile, Tim asks Keiko to help rebuild Monarch. She suggests using scanners to avoid Kong, but Verdugo refuses to risk more lives.
Shaw sees the ship arrive and runs toward it while chased by spiky creatures. He reaches the pod and travels back through the portal. But a giant tentacled Titan follows him into the human world and grabs Verdugo, killing her.
