Movie (2023) during their Direct livestream on Wednesday. The trailer showed two new characters — Bowser Jr. and Princess Rosalina.
Brie Larson, who won an Oscar and played Captain Marvel, will give her voice to Princess Rosalina. Benny Safdie, the director of Uncut Gems and an actor in Happy Gilmore 2, will voice Bowser Jr.

In May 2021, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said that the company wanted to make more animated movies based on its games if the new Mario movie became a hit. Later, Chris Meledandri, the CEO of Illumination, was asked about a sequel before the movie came out in April 2023.
After The Super Mario Bros. Movie became a big success, Nintendo and Illumination announced that a new Mario movie was being made in March 2024. The same directors, Horvath and Jelenic, are returning, and Fogel will write the story.
The new movie, called The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, will release in theaters in the United States on April 3, 2026.
In September 2025, during a Nintendo Direct event, the movie’s title was announced as The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The actors Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, and Kevin Michael Richardson were all confirmed to return to their old roles from the first movie. Brian Tyler is also coming back to create the movie’s music.
Later, on November 12, 2025, another Nintendo Direct was released to show the movie’s trailer. In that event, it was revealed that Brie Larson will voice Princess Rosalina, and Benny Safdie will voice Bowser Jr.
