In March 2015, Yash signed on for four films, including one with director Prashanth Neel. This project became one of the most expensive films in Kannada cinema. K.G.F: Chapter 2 began filming on 13 March 2019 in Hyderabad with a formal puja ceremony. After an initial shoot near Bangalore in May 2019, Yash joined the sets in June 2019. Filming at Cyanide Hills in Kolar Gold Fields was briefly halted due to a petition by N. Srinivas, who raised environmental concerns about shooting in the cyanide grounds.
In September 2019, the second schedule started in Hyderabad, where Sanjay Dutt joined the cast. Following a court stay order on 27 September, the team resumed shooting in Kolar. By October 2019, filming returned to Karnataka after completing an extensive schedule in Hyderabad.
