Set in 1847, the story begins in the lush coastal region of Karnataka, where a noble king lives peacefully with his wife and children but struggles to find true spiritual contentment. His search for inner peace leads him deep into a sacred forest, where he encounters a holy stone guarded by Panjurli, a benevolent demigod and protector of the villagers.
Moved by divine energy, the king decides to take the sacred stone back to his kingdom. In return, he donates a vast stretch of land to the villagers as an offering of gratitude. Through a human medium, Panjurli warns the king that his descendants must never reclaim this land — for if they do, they will awaken the wrath of Guliga, a fierce companion spirit of Panjurli.
More than a century later, in 1970, one of the king’s descendants grows greedy and demands that the villagers return the donated land. He approaches a Bhoota Kola performer, possessed by Panjurli, asking him to convince the locals. But the performer refuses, warning that divine justice will strike if the royal family violates their ancestral promise.
Mocking the performer’s trance, the descendant challenges the prophecy — only for the performer to vanish mysteriously into the forest, never to be seen again. Months later, just as foretold, the descendant dies on the steps of the court, moments before a hearing about the disputed land.
