Hoppers Story Overview
The story begins in Beaverton. Mabel Tanaka grows up near a forest glade. She spends time there with her grandmother. The glade is full of wild animals. Beavers live there in large numbers. Her grandmother teaches her to love nature. After her grandmother dies, Mabel protects the forest.
One day, the mayor Jerry Generazzo makes a plan. He wants to build a freeway through the glade. Mabel protests the project. But no one supports her campaign. Her activism also affects her college studies. Her biology professor, Dr. Sam Fairfax, is unhappy.
Later, Mabel finds a secret project. Sam and her team created the Hoppers program. It lets a human mind enter a robotic animal. Mabel sees a chance to save the forest. She hops into a robotic beaver. Then she escapes from the lab.
The animals believe she is a real beaver. They take her to King George. He is the beaver king of the forest dam. Mabel learns an important secret. The mayor placed sound trees in the forest. These machines scare animals away. Mabel destroys one sound tree. Animals start returning to the glade. She becomes close friends with King George.
Later, more sound trees appear. Animals run back to the dam again. Mabel and George call a meeting. Leaders of different animals join the council. There are insects, birds, fish, reptiles, and mammals. They discuss stopping the mayor. But things go wrong quickly. The insect queen dies by accident. The council turns against Mabel. Mabel and George escape together. They decide to protect the mayor instead. The council tries to kill him. A giant shark is even dropped on his car. But they escape the attack.
Soon, Dr. Sam stops the robotic beaver. Mabel returns to her human body. George feels confused and hurt. The council attacks the lab. They capture Mabel and the scientists. They create a robotic copy of the mayor. The insect king Titus plans something terrible. He wants to destroy humans at a rally.
He also wants insects to rule all animals. Mabel tries to stop him. The plan fails when the robot breaks. A wildfire suddenly spreads in the forest. The fire moves toward the city. Animals and humans must work together. They destroy the dam to release water. The flood stops the wildfire. The forest and the city are saved.
