I expected Night Patrol to be a wild crime thriller with lots of twists. But I did not expect the movie to go in so many shocking and surprising directions.
The film starts with a young couple from rival gangs meeting secretly in a quiet place. Suddenly, they are stopped by a special LAPD unit called the Night Patrol. Violence breaks out right away, and it becomes clear that these cops are not good people. In fact, the Night Patrol is shown as very dangerous.
Soon, we learn more about this group by following officers Carr (played by Justin Long) and Hawkins (played by Jermaine Fowler) during a ride-along. We also find out that Hawkins’ brother, Wazi (played by RJ Cyler), is being hunted by the Night Patrol after escaping them earlier in the movie.
Hawkins and Carr work together on a shift, and their teamwork is fun to watch. Later, Carr gets invited to join the special Night Patrol squad, a job Hawkins also wanted. But the Night Patrol is about more than just working hours. I won’t give spoilers, because the movie is best enjoyed fresh when it comes out in January. What I can say is that the story gets wild in exciting ways, and there is plenty of action and blood effect.
