Episode 1 begins with Dunk burying his master, Ser Arlan, in heavy rain. Now Dunk is alone in the world. He takes Arlan’s sword, shield, and horses. He decides to go to Ashford Meadow for a big tournament. Dunk dreams of becoming a true knight. But he was never officially knighted. On the road, he meets a clever boy named Egg. Egg keeps following and helping him. Dunk first refuses him. He wants to travel alone.
At Ashford, Dunk tells the Master of Games he is a knight. But he has no proof or witness. He is told he cannot join the tournament. Dunk feels disappointed. He hopes Ser Manfred will support him. Because Arlan once served his father. Dunk loses hope. Later, Dunk meets Steffon and Raymun Fossoway. They invite him to a Baratheon feast. There Dunk meets loud and strong Ser Lyonel Baratheon.
