Lela Rochon plays Monica White, the main character. Monica is a divorced mother whose son leaves home to attend military school. She decides to focus on her own life and starts looking for a new relationship through dating apps.
The Dating App Killer Movie Story
The film is based on the case of Anthony Robinson, a convicted serial killer known as the “Shopping Cart Killer.” He got this name because he used shopping carts to move the bodies of his victims. Monica White dated Robinson shortly before his arrest in 2021.
In November 2021, police found the bodies of Allene Elizabeth Redmon and Tonita Smith in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Investigators said both women had met Robinson through dating apps. Police later arrested Robinson after surveillance footage and phone records connected him to the women.
In 2025, Robinson was found guilty of six charges linked to the deaths of Redmon and Smith. He was sentenced in 2026 to two life sentences plus 10 years in prison. His defense team said they planned to appeal the decision.
Robinson was also named as the main suspect in the deaths of Cheyenne Brown and Stephanie Harrison, although he was not charged in those cases. Investigators also looked into his possible connection to the death of Sonya Champ in 2021 and his former fiancée, Skye Allen, who died in 2018.
