During World War II, he became a hero to Poland. He helped save about 1,000 Polish orphans who had lost their homes after the war began. He worked with groups like the Red Cross to bring these children safely to Balachadi, near Jamnagar. There, he gave them food, shelter, clothes, school, and doctors. When the war ended, the children returned home to Poland — but they never forgot his kindness.
To honor him, Poland gave him a big national award in 2011 and named a public square in Warsaw Good Maharaja Square.
Digvijaysinhji Ranjitsinhji Jadeja
Digvijaysinhji Ranjitsinhji Jadeja was born on 18 September 1895 in Sadodar, in today’s Gujarat, India. He was the nephew of the famous cricketer and Maharaja Ranjitsinhji. He studied at Rajkumar College in Rajkot, then continued his studies in England at Malvern College and University College London.
He joined the British Indian Army in 1919 as a second lieutenant and served for more than ten years. He worked with the 125th Napier’s Rifles and later served with the Egyptian Expeditionary Force. In 1921, he was promoted to lieutenant, and from 1922 to 1924, he served with the Waziristan Field Force. He became a captain in 1929 and retired from the army in 1931.
Even after retiring, he continued to receive honorary promotions until 1947, and he finally reached the rank of lieutenant-general.

Sir Digvijaysinhji Ranjitsinhji Jadeja passed away in Bombay on 3 February 1966 when he was 70 years old. He was survived by his only son, Shatrusalyasinhji, who later became a cricketer and played first-class cricket for Saurashtra.
