Satluj Movie Story Overview
The camera of K.U. Mohanan shows the pain of grief. We see a simple bank manager turn into a collector of ghosts after his friend Kirpal disappears. His mother Gurpej loses her mind waiting. Jaswant asks the system for help, but he only finds silence and a warning that his own name could be added to the list of the dead.
SSP Sugga (Suvinder Vicky) becomes the face of state power. He treats murder as routine in the name of security. Under DGP Bitta (Kanwaljeet Singh), the film shows how killing was made normal to win promotions and favour.
In the middle of this storm, Jaswant and his wife Paramjeet (Geetika Vidya Ohlyan) share an unspoken bond. She respects his honesty but fears the cost.
Seeing Kanwaljeet Singh and S.M. Zaheer together brings back memories of Maachis. Their presence reminds us that the soil, the conflict, and the trauma are the same, only seen from a new angle.
The film warns how democracies can use “national security” to silence whistleblowers and hide crimes. Director Trehan shows this clearly. When Jaswant exposes the files, DGP Bitta dismisses him as a puppet of foreign powers.
The story adds balance with Samudra Singh (Arjun Rampal). He is shown as an honest investigator. In one strong scene, he tells a rogue cop that the state cannot keep using the pain of the 1984 riots and militancy to justify killing civilians.
Trehan’s film is not anti‑state. It defends the rule of law. Jaswant proves that police stopped telling militants apart from innocent people, only to gain promotions and profit. Like Gulzar once showed, citizens can ignite like matchsticks when pushed too far. The film ends by recreating the assassination of CM Beant Singh as the breaking point.
