Ferdinand Magellan fought in the Capture of Malacca. He was hurt in battle but later healed with the help of Beatriz Barbosa, who became his wife. Around this time, he bought a slave named Enrique from Cebu and brought him back to Portugal. Enrique secretly kept worshiping his own gods.
After some years, He asked the King of Portugal to support his plan to sail all the way around the world. The king said no, so he went to Spain instead.Spain agreed, and in 1519, Magellan began his long voyage, leaving behind his pregnant wife.
The journey was very hard. Magellan punished crew members for breaking rules—one was killed, and others were left behind or tied up for mutiny. Many ships were lost. As they crossed the Pacific Ocean, the crew grew weak and desperate.During this time, Magellan dreamed of Beatriz, who told him that both she and their child had died.
Chief Humabon tells his men to spread scary rumors about a fighter named Lapu‑Lapu, saying he is a demon who eats people. Magellan doesn’t believe the story, but when he hears that Lapu‑Lapu and his people are defying him, he decides to fight.
Magellan and his soldiers go into battle, but they are quickly defeated. Magellan stumbles across the battlefield before collapsing.
Enrique, Magellan’s slave, watches as Humabon and his men celebrate by carrying a dead soldier’s body and his cut‑off head. In a voice‑over, Enrique explains the truth: there was no Lapu‑Lapu. It was Humabon and his men who attacked Magellan. Enrique also admits that he joined in the killing of Magellan’s crew so he could finally be free.
