Ralph Nathaniel Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes (born December 22, 1962) is an English actor and director. He has worked in both movies and theatre, and has won many awards, including a BAFTA Award and a Tony Award. He has also been nominated for three Academy Awards, seven Golden Globe Awards, and a Primetime Emmy Award.
Fiennes was born in Ipswich, Suffolk. He studied acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and graduated in 1985. He became famous on stage for performing Shakespeare plays at the Royal National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company. In 1995, he acted as Prince Hamlet on Broadway and won the Tony Award for Best Actor. He was later nominated again for the play Faith Healer in 2006.
