The Shards Series Story Overview
The Shards is moving forward at FX with 20th Television producing. The project was first reported in May. Ryan Murphy is executive producer through Ryan Murphy Productions. Max Winkler will direct and also produce. Bret Easton Ellis, Nick Hall, Kathleen McCaffrey, and Brian Young are executive producers too.
The story comes from Ellis’ horror novel. It is set in 1980s Los Angeles and mixes fiction with parts of Ellis’ own life. The novel follows 17‑year‑old Bret, a student at Buckley prep school. A new boy, Robert Mallory, joins the group. He is handsome, charming, and hiding a secret. Bret becomes obsessed with him while also fearing the Trawler, a serial killer who seems to be getting closer.
The coincidences feel uncanny, but they are seen through the eyes of a teenager who is learning to turn his life into story.
The series will mark the TV debuts of Richard Gere and Campbell. Actor Igby Rigney is also part of the cast. Rigney is known for working with Mike Flanagan in The Midnight Club, Midnight Mass, and The Fall of the House of Usher. His other credits include Grey’s Anatomy, The Sex Lives of College Girls, and Fast & Furious 9.
