F1 Cast 2025
Work on the F1 movie began in December 2021. At that time, Brad Pitt, director Joseph Kosinski, writer Ehren Kruger, and producer Jerry Bruckheimer were already part of the project.
Kosinski, Kruger, and Bruckheimer had all worked together before on Top Gun: Maverick (2022). The rest of the cast was announced in early 2023, just before filming started at Silverstone in July.

The movie was also filmed during real Formula 1 Grand Prix weekends in the 2023 and 2024 seasons, with full help from the FIA, the official body that runs F1. Many driving scenes were inspired by real races, and real F1 teams and drivers appear in the film — including Lewis Hamilton, who also worked as a producer.

Sonny Hayes is a former Formula One (F1) racing star who is now older and works as a racer-for-hire. Thirty years earlier, he had a terrible crash at the 1993 Spanish Grand Prix, which ended his F1 career and left him feeling like he never reached his full potential. After he wins the 24 Hours of Daytona race, Sonny is visited by his old teammate Rubén Cervantes. Rubén now owns the APXGP team, which is struggling in the F1 season. He asks Sonny to join the team as their second driver.
Rubén explains that APXGP must win one of the nine races left in the season, or his investors will sell the team. Sonny doesn’t want to return at first, but Rubén tells him that winning again will prove he is still the “best in the world.” So Sonny finally agrees.
At the Belgian Grand Prix, Joshua becomes more arrogant and purposely causes Sonny to crash. After the race, Sonny is furious and scolds Joshua for making a selfish mistake that hurts the whole team. To calm things down, Kate arranges a poker game so Joshua and Sonny can learn about each other’s similar life stories. The game helps break the tension, and later, Sonny and Kate spend the night together.

Sonny later opens up to her and explains why he keeps racing. He says he does it to feel those rare moments when he believes he is unstoppable and nothing can touch him. At the final race of the season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Joshua fights for the lead against Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc. Sonny gets caught in a small crash, and the race is red-flagged, which stops everything. This gives APXGP time to fix both cars before a short three-lap sprint to the finish.
When the race restarts, Sonny passes Leclerc. Then, instead of going for the win himself, he blocks Hamilton so Joshua can move into first place. Sonny sacrifices his own chance of victory to help the team. But on the very last lap, Hamilton and Joshua crash into each other, clearing the path for Sonny. Sonny crosses the finish line and wins his first F1 race, saving APXGP’s future.
Joshua is offered a spot with Mercedes, one of the top teams, but he turns it down. As the team celebrates, Sonny quietly gets ready to leave. He and Joshua part as friends, and he tells Kate he will see her again soon.
